Abdul Aziz meets Iran officials on Iraq developments By: Sheikh Muhammad Khurasani TEHRAN, Iran: Sayyid Abdul Aziz Al-Hakim, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) who is a member of the US-appointed Iraqi Governing Council and brother of late Ayatullah Sayyid Muhammad Baqer Al-Hakim held talks with Iranian officials in Tehran on Monday. During his meeting with Iran’s President Muhammad Khatami, which focused on Tehran-Baghdad relations, Abdul Aziz briefed Khatami about the developments in Iraq. He said the Iraqi people would establish a democratic government in the country. Khatami said: “Iran calls for establishment of a democratic government in Iraq and solidarity of all political and ethnic groups of the country”. Lauding the services of late Ayatullah Baqer Al-Hakim, the President said he was a devotee, well wisher and an enlightened man who always contemplated about the interest and dignity of Iraq. Abdul Aziz also met with Iranian parliament speaker Mehdi Karrubi and discussed regional affairs. END |
