Ashura processions held in Europe, Oceania

GLASGOW, Scotland: Mourning processions were held in different European and Oceanian countries on Ashura Day in connection with martyrdom anniversary of holy Prophet Muhammad (p)’s grandson Imam Hussain (p).

In Scotland, nearly one thousand Scottish Hussaini mourners went on an hour-long mourning march through Glasgow's west end paying rich homage to Chief of Martyrs Imam Hussain (p) who along with his 72 loyal companions rendered supreme sacrifices for the defense of Islam and protection of high human values.to commemorate the death of Imam Hussain, a grandson of the prophet Mohammed.
Prior to the mourning procession, bussinessman Nassir Jaffri said: “We will hand out leaflets to explain that our religion is about peace and that we are against despots like Saddam.”

In Germany, large number of mourners participated in Ashura procession held in the city of Essen under the arrangements of Maukeb Shiiatu Ali (p). The procession began at 9:00 am from Hornbach ground. While beating their chests and heads to signify grief over the unjust killing of Imam Hussain (p) in the burning plain of Karbala, the mourners were reciting elegies and chaing Ya Hussain, Ya Hussain.

In Australia, a mourning procession was conducted in Sydney on 19 February, 10 Muharram, for the remembrance of the Day of Ashura and Imam Hussein (p) at 8:30 – 10:30 am. Large number of Husseini devotees – men, women and children - from different cities of the country arrived here to attend the procession at Auburn Public School, Corner of Auburn Rd. and Beatrice St., Auburn. The mourners while holding Alam, or the standard of Hazrat Abbas (p) were chanting dirges to mourn the Karbala tragedy that is 1,400 years old.

KUALA LAMPUR, Malaysia: Marking Tasu’a Day – the ninth of Muharram -, which precedes `Ashura', believers worldwide were clad in black in mourning for Hazret Imam Hussain (p).
