DAMASCUS, Syria: The holy fasting month of Ramadan started
in various countries on Saturday, while in many others on
Sunday and in some others it will begin on Monday.


Muslims in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Lebanon, Qatar, United Arab
Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Palestine and Afghanistan saw the
crescent moon in nightfall of Friday and marked Saturday as
the first day of holy month of Ramadan - the ninth month in
the Islamic calendar.

Iraq, Malaysia, Indonesia, Algeria, Syria, Egypt, Jordan,
Tunisia, Turkey, Canada, Norway, England, Brunei, and
Tajikistan announced that the new moon had not been sighted
Friday night, and that Sunday will be the first day of
Ramadan.
Pakistan will mark Monday as the first day of Ramadan.
